At North Jersey School of Dance Arts, we recognize the transformative power of competition, and for us, the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) is the pinnacle of excellence in competition. We believe in nurturing talent and providing our students with the opportunity to showcase their skills on a global stage. YAGP is World's largest student ballet scholarship competition & global dance network, providing education & opportunities for young dancers worldwide.

Selection Process

Technical Proficiency:

  • To represent our school at YAGP, students must exhibit a high level of technical proficiency in their chosen dance style. Whether it's ballet, pointe or contemporary, our instructors assess each dancer's technical abilities to ensure they are well-prepared for the challenges of the competition.

Artistic Expression:

  • YAGP celebrates not only technical prowess but also artistic expression. Students selected to compete demonstrate a deep understanding of the emotional and artistic aspects of their chosen dance form. Our instructors look for a unique ability to connect with the audience through compelling storytelling and emotional resonance.

Commitment and Dedication:

  • Competing at YAGP requires dedication and a strong work ethic. Students chosen to represent NJSDA showcase a consistent commitment to their training, attending classes regularly, and demonstrating a genuine passion for dance. This commitment extends beyond the studio to include additional rehearsals and preparations specific to the competition.

Instructor Recommendation:

In addition to the above criteria, students selected to compete at YAGP often receive a recommendation from their instructors. Our experienced faculty, many of whom have professional performance backgrounds, play a vital role in identifying students with the potential to shine on the prestigious YAGP stage.

Preparing for YAGP

Once selected, our dedicated instructors work closely with the chosen students to refine their routines, enhance their technical skills, and perfect the artistic nuances of their performances so our students are well-prepared to make a lasting impression at YAGP. Students are required to participate in their regular weekly classes but also take private weekly lessons with their instructor to prepare for the competition.

At the North Jersey School of Dance Arts, YAGP isn't just a competition; it's a platform for our students to reach new heights in their dance journey. The selection process is a reflection of our commitment to excellence and the belief that every dancer has the potential to shine on the global stage. Join us as we embark on this extraordinary journey of artistic achievement and dance excellence at the Youth America Grand Prix.
