Dress Code

At North Jersey School of Dance Arts, it is very important to be dressed appropriately for each class you take. Just like you wouldn’t wear a tutu to soccer practice, we would prefer you save your soccer uniform for the field! Likewise, the outfit you wear to tap class might not be appropriate for ballet class. Dressing appropriately gives each dancer confidence! It helps teachers better see body lines so they can help you become the best dancer you can be. Below are the dress codes for each style and level.

A Note on Technology

We understand that technology is present in our everyday lives and most dancers have a phone or smart watch. We've noticed dancers using their devices during class on water breaks or looking at their wrist throughout the class. Because of this cell phones and smart watches will no longer be allowed in the dance studios. They can be kept in a dance bag in the dressing room or in the office.

If there is an emergency and you need to get in touch with your dancer, please call the office. Dance class is the perfect time to disconnect from the virtual world. We want our dancers fully focused on class. Live in the present!

All Classes:

Hair must be secured neatly away from the face. Dance classes involve a lot of movement and when hair falls in your face it can become very distracting and uncomfortable. For all non-ballet classes hair should be secured in a neat pony tail. If the hair is too short for a pony tail, please use a headband or clips to keep the hair out of your eyes. For ballet classes (especially levels IIIA and above) hair should be secured in a bun.
